- Batting Station and Field:
Set up a tee with cones (targets) spread out around the practice area. - Target Location:
If using a Softball field, place targets- between 1st and 2nd bases
- between 2nd and 3rd bases
- 3rd base
- Players:
Batter is positioned at the tee, with helmet on.
Players ready to bat are in line a safe distance away from the batter.
How to Run the Drill
- Target Call:
Call out a specific target before the player swings. - Pacing:
Allow the player to reset their feet completely between swings. - Focus Cue:
Provide feedback to adjust contact position to match the target direction.
To simulate hitting early, move back- for right-handed, they’ll hit to 3rd.
To simulate hitting late, move forward- for right-handed, they’ll hit to 1st.
Changing the angle of front foot will also help. - Round Length:
Give each hitter 5 to 6 swings per round before rotating. - Scoring:
Award one point for every hit that hits the called target.
Coaching Tips and Variations
- Soft Toss:
Move from a stationary tee to side soft-toss once hitters gain control. - Fielding:
Place fielders with gloves in target zones on the field instead of using a net. - Target Size:
Start with wide target areas and narrow them as accuracy improves.
